Program Outline -Level 1 (Basic DME Repair)
Section 1 - Manual Equipment
1.1 – Foundations – This is an overview of bearings, casters, rear wheels, tire repair & maintenance, hydraulic/gas cylinders and full tool review -all the things you need to know to get started in DME repair.
1.2 - Rollator Walkers and ADLs– This is an overview of walker setup and common repairs with step by step instruction. We also review ADLS equipment.
1.3 – Manual Wheelchairs – This is an overview of different classes of manual wheelchairs ranging from K0001 to K0005. Guided hands-on tutorial videos walk you through common repair issues and troubleshooting skills.
1.4 – Tilt-in-Space Manual Wheelchairs – This is an overview of different tilt-in-space frames. We look at internal & external pivot, as well as rotation in space. Guided hands-on tutorial videos walk you through common repair issues and troubleshooting skills.
Section 2 - Stationary Powered and Foundations
2.1 – Motors and Controllers – This is an overview of DC motors & brushes, as well as the fundamentals of how controllers work. We take it all apart and look at the essential components inside, walking through common repair issues and troubleshooting techniques.
2.2 - Electronic Theory and Foundations – This is an overview of electrical theory and electromagnetic induction. We’ll explore these necessary fundamentals, while learning common tricks and tools for use in troubleshooting key components.
2.3 - Lift Chairs – This is an overview of lift chairs and their basic components, with guided hands-on troubleshooting and repairing.
2.4 – Hospital Beds and Hoyer Lifts – This is an overview of hospital beds and Hoyer lifts. We’ll look at proper adjustments as well as troubleshooting common problems and repair techniques. In addition we run through hospital bed setup and breakdown.
Section 3 - Powered Mobility
3.1 – Joysticks/Programmers - This is an overview of joysticks and programmers, common styles, types of joysticks, repairs, settings and programming. We walk you through everything you need to know about these key components of powerchairs.
3.2 – Batteries – This is an overview of battery theory, troubleshooting and best practices. This course prepares you to work on all battery-powered basic equipment.
3.3 – Scooter Bases – This is an overview of scooter repair and troubleshooting. We explore the base unit, including electrical and non-electrical components. Hands-on tutorial videos guide you every step along the way.
3.4 – Powerchair Bases – Through guided tutorial videos and comprehensive supporting text, you will troubleshoot and repair electrical and non-electrical elements, as well as key structural and operational components.
